Early summer blooms.

Fun and funky! Bloom starts as a tight globe but as it matures the top half explodes upward, like a big burgundy hairdo. Florets are wine-red with white highlights. Adds loads of texture, color and height, and the pollinators love it. The 4" blooms last quite a while and seedheads remain decorative.

Zone 4-9. 10cm+ bulbs.

Flowering Onions

The large Allium genus is characterized by small six-petaled florets held in umbels—large or small, loose or tight. Sweet-smelling blooms make great fresh cutflowers or dried winter arrangements; only if crushed will they smell like onion. Alliums are deer resistant and prefer full sun and well-drained soil, but can tolerate some shade. Fertilize in early spring to promote leaf and bulb growth. Leaves may die back before or during blooming. Most types bloom in late spring to early summer, except where noted.

Shipping

Items from our perennial plants warehouse will ship around late September through October. Bulbs can be planted successfully up until your ground freezes.
